What is Burgoo?

Burgoo is a highly seasoned stew made of any combination of fowl, game, other meats and vegetables.

GUIDELINES FOR BURGOO COOK-OFF

$10.00 entry fee

1.   Entries must be at the pavilion at Baker’s Island by 11:00
   a.m.
2.   Burgoo must be made from “scratch”. Commercially canned or processed meats may not be used, with the exception of bacon and salt pork used for flavor. Meats must be raw, fresh or frozen prior to Burgoo preparation.
3.   Burgoo must contain at least three (3) kinds of meat, fish or fowl. Bacon and salt pork cannot be counted as one of the meats. Meats may be wild or domesticated or a combination of both.
4.   An assortment of fresh, canned or frozen vegetables may be used. Bulgar, dried beans, spices and seasonings of your choice may be used.
5.   Each entrant must submit his/her recipe on an index card, and must be typed or printed using standard recipe form.
   Entrant should not write his/her name on recipe card. Recipe must make approximately one gallon of Burgoo.
6. Burgoo may be cooked at home and brought to cook-off in slow cooker or crock pot, or provide other method for heating on day of contest. Electricity will be provided.
7.   All recipes become the property of Webster Springs Main
   Street and will not be returned to entrants.
8.   All entrants and others must leave the pavilion area during the judging.
9.   Main Street officers and board members and their immediate families are not eligible.

APPLE PIE CONTEST RULES

1.   No more than two (2) entries per person.
2.   Two-crust pie only – 8 or 9 inch.
3.   Crust and filling must be made from scratch.
4.   Filling must either fresh, home preserved or home frozen. Sliced apples, apple sauce or apple butter may be used.
5.   Entries must be accompanied by the recipe, typed or printed on an index card, using standard recipe form.
   (No names on card)
6. All recipes become the property of Webster Springs Main Street. Pies will be auctioned after judging.
7. Webster Springs Main Street officers and board members and their immediate family are not eligible.
8.  Entries must be at the pavilion by 11:00 a.m.
9.  Entry Fee is $5.00.
