Naturalist Activities and Education
Join Naturalist Shannon at Holly River State Park every Thursday through Sunday for outdoor adventures, nature lessons, crafts and so much more!

Pool

Campgrounds and Rearing Pond

- Campground Store: Wed-Sat 12p-8pm (Sunday 12:30p-10a)

Friday
12pm- Trout Tales (YPP)
- Location: Trout Rearing Pond
1:30pm- Tree ID walk and Survival Game
- Location: Meet at the Primitive Campsite 1
- Description: We will learn how to identify the most common types of trees in our area. At the end we will play a tree life game…will you be the oldest tree at the end?
4pm- Geology Rocks!!!(YPP)
- Location: Laurel Fork Council Circle
- Description: A self-guided game that teaches you about the Geology of WV. Will you make it to the end…or will an earthquake be the end of you????
9 pm- Finding Moths!…or is that the Mothman?!?
- Location: Meet at the Pool House
- Description: Learn about the different types of moths in the area, and then we will try to call in the beautiful Rosy Maple Moth!
Saturday
12pm- Trout Tales (YPP)
- Location: Trout Rearing Pond
130pm – Head in the Clouds Game
- Location: Laurel Fork Trail, Council Circle
- Description: Be the water…be the water..get ran over by a glacier and drank by a dog… will you ever make it to a plant?? Come play and find out! Bracelets will be made to remember your adventure.
4:00pm- KUBB MADNESS- Northern European Game.
Think Corn hole with War elements. Bring a team and compete to have your team’s name written on the Rugged KUBB Trophy. Teams of 1-6. If you think you are good at cornhole…this is your next challenge. Let’s Go!

7pm- Saturday Night Spooks
- Location: Primitive Campsite 1
- Description: Scary tales including the Werewolf of Webster County…. The legend who guards these mountains.. + S’mores
Sunday
12pm- Trout Tales
- Location: Trout Rearing Pond
2pm- Park Volleyball!
- Meet us at the Volleyball Court. Be warned…the Naturalist is horrible at serving…. Name: DUCK AND COVER ….
