For the adventure-loving dog…

Head to Holly River State Park for some of the best hiking trails in the county. With over 8,000 acres of forest to explore, Holly River is the perfect area for you and your dog to find peaceful solitude. Choose your own adventure with opportunities like camping, hiking, swimming, and more.

For the dog that is also a foodie…

Custard Stand hot dogs have been a Webster County staple since 1991. Today Custard Stand chili is recognized all across West Virginia and is sold in grocery stores across the Eastern United States. For the dog that is always up for a good walk…

Lover’s Lane Boardwalk is an awesome place to stretch your body. Both lovers and dogs agree this is a fun walk for anyone. And if your dog is also a history buff, they’ll be pleased to learn about its nearly 150-year history.

For the dog that loves a car ride…

Hit the open road on the Webster Springs Loop Road Tour. The spectacular mountains and valleys that surround Webster County make for some of the most beautiful drives anywhere. This loop is roughly 3 and a half hours long and is the perfect combination of sights and stops for you and your pet to enjoy.

For the dog that loves camping…

Camp Holly is the perfect spot for anyone wanting to sleep under the stars. With camping options to fit anyone’s outdoor adventure dreams—or budget—and some of the best fishing in Webster County, Camp Holly is the perfect backdrop for your pet-friendly Almost Heaven getaway.

For the water-lovers …

Head to Big Ditch Lake for a perfect getaway in Cowen. The lake provides a home to largemouth bass, tiger musky, black crappie, bluegill, green sunfish, channel catfish, and carp. Picnic and boat launch facilities are both available. And if your dog is more of a river rat, you can always hit the Elk River or Back Fork of the Elk to enjoy river days.

Happy National Dog Day! Celebrate and enjoy every day with your furry friend and companion.
